Simon Flower - Live at 10 Years of Poker Flat

May 26th, 2009

The ever inconsistent Lower Depths is back with it’s second post in as many days.  We tried to hold back on this one but it’s too good.

Simon Says

Righto, about time for a new live set!
I recorded this at the ‘10 years of Poker Flat’ party at the excellent Watergate club in Berlin in April. It was a pretty special night, one of those times when all the artists were absolutely on form, and the crowd was certainly along for the ride too.
I’m really glad I ended up hitting record on this one, as I was really happy when hearing it back. With live sets every gig you play is always a little more enjoyable artistically than the last as you get a little tighter each time, but it was also fun this time to play some new tracks and is a great reminder for me of a fantastic night.
Hope you enjoy it…

Just outstanding, kicks arse out of any podcast I have heard of late. Would have loved to have been there on the night. Not heard of Simon Flower but going to keep an eye on this guy for sure. Love the way he mixed in and out of tracks, please tell me he was using CDJ’s or Vinyl please do not say live mix (Ableton).

Hey KRAY, haha a bit of both actually:)

I make all my music in/play live from a software called Reason. I get this question quite a bit about how I play live in Reason…basically in Reason you can open and play two different songs at the same time…but unfortunately they don’t sync, so what I have to do is while the first song is playing, i hit play on the second one (as on time as possible) and then beatmatch it by increasing/decreasing the bpm of the second track. Its pretty manic, flipping between song windows trying to pull out sounds from the first track to wind it down, at the same time adding in sounds from the 2nd track all while trying to keep them in time…keeps me on my toes:)
